Margaret Elizabeth Hickmore (née Bailey) passed away on 14th February 2010, after struggling with increasingly deteriorating health over the past few years.

Margaret is survived by sons Greg and Barry, grandchildren April and Shona, and by her brother Douglas Bailey of Calgary. She was predeceased by her father and mother, Floyd and Elizabeth Bailey, and her brothers Leslie and Grant as well as by her husband Fred.

To fulfil a lifelong dream of becoming a nurse, Margaret returned to school in her early forties and gained her RN and subsequently a BSc(Nu). She worked for many years, with dedication and devotion to her calling, first at the Royal Alexandra Hospital and then at Alberta Hospital Edmonton until her retirement.

To honour her life and work and her belief in the power of education, the family has established the Margaret Hickmore Nursing Scholarship at the University of Alberta. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made to that Scholarship. Donations may be left at the memorial service or can be mailed, made payable to the University of Alberta, c/o Jessica Twidale, Faculty of Nursing, University of Alberta, 2-43 Clinical Sciences Building, Edmonton, Alberta T6G 2G3.
